Advocacy success leads to donation from indirect connections

NORTHEAST INDIANA — A recent donation celebrated the advocacy success of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program of Northeast Indiana (LTCOP).

When a nursing home facility was trying to remove a local woman from its care, LTCOP offered her a voice.

Zanzy Lewis, LTCOP executive director, represented the woman at a hearing on a removal petition. She advocated profusely for the woman’s rights and well-being. During the hearing, Zanzy received a ruling in favor of the woman, ensuring she had continued access to quality care and services.

“Our mother was permitted to remain at her current location, thanks to Zanzy,” the woman’s daughter told LTCOP. “We are and will always be forever grateful to Zanzy and LTCOP for taking care of and protecting our mother, and all the elderly.”

That gratitude was later expressed further by the daughter’s employer which made a donation to LTCOP on behalf of the woman.

The donation serves as a reminder that the advocacy efforts of LTCOP are felt beyond the long-term care residents it supports.
